It is one of two quilts (the Cumbrian Frame Quilt) made for Elizabeth Mitchell for her marriage to Robert Knipe in 1899. The family history credited her sister, Bertha with making the quilt, but census information tells us she was born in 1896, making her only 3 years old at the time.
